The man killed in a head-on crash on Route 22 in the Town of Southeast on Tuesday has been identified as a Hopewell Junction resident.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office says 59 year old Gelsomino Lombardo was killed when his car crossed into the opposite lane of traffic and crashed head-on into a Mercedes Benz SUV . The driver and passenger of that vehicle were injured and taken to the hospital.
“According to preliminary reports, Mr. Lombardo was driving alone in a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse at about 1:10 p.m. on Tuesday, heading northbound on Route 22 just north of the Milltown Road intersection in Southeast. His car crossed over into the southbound lane of the road and ran head-on into a 2015 Mercedes Benz SUV.”
The crash investigation forced the shutdown of that section of Route 22 for more than 4 hours.
