Runaway Amtrak Train

(New York, NY) -- Amtrak is investigating what caused one of its trains to separate.

Train 68 was enroute from Montreal to New York Penn Station Wednesday night when two cars split from the rest of the train in Columbia County. That’s the line that also goes through Dutchess County.  No one was hurt after a quick-thinking passenger pulled the emergency brake to stop the runaway train.

The 287 passengers on board were pretty shaken up after being stranded in the cold and dark for two hours until a rescue train arrived.
