City of Poughkeepsie Cuts Police, Fire Budget

The City of Poughkeepsie says it will cut approximately $500,000 from police and fire services for the 2020 budget. According to Mayor Rob Rolison, the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic are to blame:

Like everyone else, city officials have faced considerable challenges during this crisis. With the help of our department heads, we have kept pace with a rapidly changing landscape, while continuing to provide uninterrupted essential services.

No jobs are expected to be cut from the police or fire department, instead the city hopes to save money by enacting a hiring freeze and reducing spending by 15% in all city departments.
