(New York, NY) -- Closing arguments are set for today in Sheldon Silver's corruption retrial.
More than two dozen witnesses testified over seven days before both sides rested yesterday. Silver declined to testify even after Manhattan federal prosecutors tried to prove, once again, that the former top Democrat used his influence as New York Assembly Speaker in exchange for four-million-dollars in illegal kickbacks. The 74-year-old's first conviction was tossed after an appeals court cited a U.S. Supreme Court ruling limiting what constitutes a bribe and the jury could get the case later today.
