(Newburgh, NY) -- About 70 percent of residents in Newburgh are still without power following Tuesday's severe storms and a deadly tornado that killed two people, including a child.
An eleven-year-old girl, Gina Garzon, and a woman were crushed by falling trees in two separate incidents in the Newburgh area. Gina Garzon was killed when a tree crushed the family’s SUV at their home on Robinson Avenue. A vigil was held last night for Gina.
The woman was killed when a tree toppled onto her car as she was on the Desmond Campus of Mount St. Mary College. The Desmond Campus remains closed until Monday. Schools in Newburgh are closed for a second straight day and the Newburgh armory is being used as a shelter.
