(Albany, NY) -- The Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge will not be given the name the "Tappan Zee."
Thousands of people in the Hudson Valley pushed for the name change, but the state Assembly didn't take up the issue before they adjourned. "The Journal News" reports that the Senate voted in favor of a bill that would've called the structure the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Tappan Zee Bridge.
Governor Andrew Cuomo dubbed the bridge after his father when it was built to replace the Tappan Zee. People in the region were upset with the new name and launched an online petition that gathered over one-hundred-thousand signatures. Governor Andrew Cuomo called the petition "personally hurtful."
