(Poughkeepsie, NY) -- An excessive heat warning is in effect until 10 tonight in Dutchess and Ulster counties and most of the Mid-Hudson. The National Weather Service in Albany says the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity creates a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are likely. They recommend that people limit outdoor activity and, if possible, remain in air conditioning.
The Weather Service says to reduce risk during outdoor work, it is recommended that people take frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. “Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency...call 9 1 1.”
