(New York, NY) -- The "dog days" of summer or the hottest days of the year in the Northern Hemisphere begin today in the Hudson Valley.
According to the "New York Times," the time period was named after the Dog Star called Sirius, which was originally the 40-days just before or after the star started rising with the sun. Most almanacs have the dog days of summer from July 3rd to August 11th, which are typically the hottest days in the tri-state. The hottest temperature recorded in Central Park, since the late 1800s, was 106-degrees on July 9th 1936.
