(Washington, DC) -- The FDA is warning pills meant to protect cats and dogs from fleas and ticks could cause neurological problems.
Doctors say pet owners need more warnings, and are issuing an alert to owners and veterinarians saying they will be requiring more clear labels on the products. A pesticide used in the medication sold under the brand names Bravecto, Credelio, Nexgard and Simparica can cause symptoms such as stumbling or seizures among the animals.
After careful review, the FDA says these products are still safe and effective for a majority of animals. They say although most won't have the adverse reactions, it's important for pet owners and vets to know the risks and get more information.
