(Houston, TX) -- Mattress Firm is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
The plan is for the country's largest bed store to stay in business but restructure through the process. About 200 underperforming stores are expected to close soon. Another 500 stores are under review for possible closure. Mattress Firm operates stores in Dutchess,Ulster and Orange counties and none of those stores are on the first list of 200 store closings.
Right now there are more than 33-hundred Mattress Firm stores in the United States. The company plans to emerge from bankruptcy in about two months.
