(New York, NY) -- Attorneys General of 34 states, including New York, want the Federal Communications Commission to crack down on robocallers.
They sent a formal comment to the FCC asking them to create new rules to fight the scammers by allowing telephone companies to block more illegal calls.
Robocallers are now using what's called neighbor scamming. They work around call blocking by creating a fake caller ID with a number that looks like it's from someone in the area. Last year the Federal Trade Commission received four-and-a-half million complaints about illegal robocalls.
