(Albany, NY) -- New York State will be assisting lower income residents to heat their homes this winter. Governor Cuomo says 372-million federal dollars has been given to the state for the annual Home Energy Assistance Program. New Yorkers can start applying tomorrow for the aid to help with their utility bills.
The applications are being accepted by designated local social services agencies in Dutchess, Ulster, Orange and the other counties. Qualifying families will get a regular HEAP benefit of up to $726.
Last year, nearly a million and a half New York households benefited from the program.
