(New York, NY) -- Metro-North commuters will get a chance to weigh in on the MTA's proposed fare and toll hikes.
The MTA is holding the first in a series of public hearings this evening at Baruch College in Manhattan. It's facing a one-billion-dollar deficit and is considering two proposals to help close that hole. One would keep the two-dollar-75-cent bus and subway fare but eliminate the cash bonus on MetroCards, while a second option would hike the fare to three-dollars with a larger ten-percent cash bonus.
The MTA is also talking about a four-percent fare hike on Metro-North and the Long Island Railroad and an eight-percent hike on bridge and tunnel tolls, starting March of next year.
