(New York, NY) -- Hundreds of flights were canceled at airports in New York and New Jersey because of the snowstorm .
About 500 flights were canceled at JFK International Airport this morning , with nearly 600 grounded at LaGuardia. Newark International Airport also reported 600 cancellations.
Travelers are being told to check with their airlines before heading out the door.
