Fire Destroys Apartment Building In Ellenville

Two Ellenville Police officers were injured as they helped evacuate residents from apartments on fire early this morning.

At about 2:20am Officers Morse and Young responded to a fire at the Emerald Pond Estates on Route 209. They began waking residents and kicking in doors to get to the residents.  The two officers were treated and released at Ellenville Hospital.  Building D suffered heavy damage from the fire; there were no other injuries.  27 people have been left homeless by the blaze.

The Mid-Hudson Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the families with immediate needs and housing.  Eleven fire companies from Ulster and Sullivan counties battled the blaze for about five hours.
