(New York, NY) -- The Port Authority is issuing a new directive barring the forcible removal of airline passengers from planes at New York and New Jersey airports including Stewart Airport near Newburgh. This comes following the United Airlines incident on Sunday in which a doctor was injured while being dragged off a flight in Chicago.
Port Authority Police are being told not to respond if they're called for assistance to forcibly remove a passenger when a flight is overbooked or to make way for crew members. The directive reaffirms existing policy that tells police to consider every incident on a case by case basis before reacting.
