Dutchess Sheriff's Office Celebrates 300 Years

Dutchess County Sheriff Butch Anderson yesterday kicked off the 300th anniversary celebration of his law enforcement agency.

The year-long celebration will include an open house and other public events.  At the Poughkeepsie headquarters Sgt. Jonathan Hughes gave an outline of the history of the agency beginning in 1717.

Several historic documents were on display including pistol permit applications from James Earl Jones, Eleanor Roosevelt, and James Cagney.  Sheriff Anderson is asking anyone who has historic photos or other items concerning the Sheriff’s Department to contact them.
