(New York, NY) -- Amtrak says it has no choice but to speed up construction on its tracks and support system at New York's Penn Station, starting next week.
That means a summer of slowdowns for riders on Amtrak, N-J Transit and the Long Island Rail Road. Amtrak CEO Charles Moorman says the move comes after recent derailments and other breakdowns. Construction planned over the next two or three years will now be crammed into the next few months.
Much of the suddenly-accelerated work will happen on weekdays.
