Fire broke out in a vacant building on the Hudson River Psychiatric Center off of Route 9 in the Town of Poughkeepsie this morning. Upon arrival Fairview firefighters found the interior of the brick building to be fully involved in flames, with the roof also on fire.
Firefighting activates caused some water issues on Leighton and Hook Roads. The Town of Poughkeepsie Water Department was called out to work on the problem.
The state shut down most operations at the site about 15 years ago sold the center to private developers. Since then there have been a couple of fires in the vacant buildings which, over the years, have been visited by ghost hunters and homeless people.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
