(New York, NY) -- Students are recognizing their favorite teachers during a week-long celebration. The National Education Association said many students and families across the country are reaching out to their teachers just to say "Thank You." Today happens to be National Teacher Day. That also coincidentally falls during Teacher Appreciation Week, which is always the first full week of May.
First discussions by political and educational leaders to recognize Teachers on a particular day began back in 1944. In 1953, Eleanor Roosevelt persuaded Congress to proclaim National Teacher’s Day before an official proclamation by Congress came in 1980.
