(Albany, NY) -- Thousands of students are applying for New York's new free college tuition program.
More than three-thousand applications were filed hours after the Excelsior Scholarship plan went live yesterday. The program covers four-years of in-state tuition to SUNY schools for families that earn no more than 125-thousand-dollars a year.
The deal generally requires students to stay in state for a period of time after graduation and doesn't cover housing, meals or books.
