Driverless Cars Arrive In New York

(Albany, NY) -- A one-year testing period for driverless cars in New York is underway.

It kicked off today with various state officials going for a spin inside an Audi-A-1.  Today's trip with a state trooper tailing behind took lawmakers and others from the state Capitol through downtown Albany and to an open highway.

The only part of today's trip without a driver occurred on Interstate 90 between Patroon Island Bridge and Exit 10. An engineer handled the ride through the city. So far, Audi is the only car-maker to apply for a self-driving test vehicle from the state Department of Motor Vehicles.
