Hudson Valley Meteorite Car Is Headed To Paris

(Peekskill, NY) -- A Chevy Malibu famously struck by a meteorite in Peekskill 25 years ago is heading to the City of Light.

"The Journal News" reports the car will be featured in an exhibition on meteorites at the French National Museum of Natural History in Paris. The 1980 Chevy was parked in 18-year-old Michelle Knapp's Wells Street driveway on October 9, 1992, when a 26-pound rock plunged from space and into its trunk.

The car's current owner says it will travel to Paris on a container ship. In 1993, it was part of an exhibition at New York's American Museum of Natural History.
