Tappan Zee Bridge Closes Forever Tonight

(Nyack, NY) -- The 61-year-old Tappan Zee bridge will be closing forever tonight as westbound traffic is switched over to its brand new replacement.

At some point tonight, the final car will make the 3.1-mile trip across the Tappan Zee Bridge. Traffic will be stopped as preparations are made to route Westchester-bound traffic onto the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge. Lohud.com reports that a 1955 Chevy Corvette was the very first car to drive across the old bridge and a Nyack man has a plan to make his 1929 Model A Ford, be the last.
