More than 9,500 Central Hudson customers were knocked off the grid last night when fierce winds combined with heavy rains to knock down trees and powerlines.
Utility crews are making good progress in restoring power. Those without electricity were mostly in Dutchess and Ulster counties. Rhinebeck, Hyde Park & Olive Bridge were among the hardest hit areas.
Meanwhile, Governor Andrew Cuomo activated the State of Emergency Operations Center as the remnants of Tropical Storm Phillipe combined with another storm to bring heavy rain and high winds to the Hudson Valley. The Governor has directed all state agencies to mobilize personnel and watch for possible flooding. Cuomo says state agencies are ready to respond when needed.
