(New York, NY) -- The annual tradition of attempting to contact Harry Houdini from beyond the grave continues.
At Soujourn Restaurant on the Upper Eastside, dozens gathered today for a séance, in hopes the legendary escape artist would make his presence known. As a young man Houdini lived there in an upstairs apartment. Magician Dorothy Dietrich conducted the ceremony, asking the magician to blow out candles or make a telephone ring. She closed by promising to be back next year.
Houdini died on Halloween 91 years ago and is buried in New York City. Although he never promised to come back from beyond the grave, he said if anyone could escape death -- he could.
