(Putnam County, NY) -- A new sheriff is going to take charge in Putnam County. Robert Langley has narrowly beaten incumbent Sheriff Don Smith 51 to 49 percent.
Smith became sheriff in 2001 but recently had a public feud with former Putnam County District Attorney Adam Levy. The former DA filed a lawsuit against the sheriff and Smith and the county wound up paying 150-thousand-dollars as part of a settlement. Robert Langley has previously served as a Deputy Sheriff in Putnam County in the past.
