(New Paltz, NY) -- A Sojourner Truth statue will honor the women's rights activist in Ulster County.
Historians say Truth was born near New Paltz in the late 18th century. She was a slave but escaped in the mid-1820's. She spent the rest of her life giving speeches on the importance of women's rights and advocated for ending slavery. The statue will be built on the Empire State Trail. Governor Cuomo's office says the state is currently accepting applications for statue designs.
