(New Windsor, NY) -- Governor Andrew Cuomo is calling on the Port Authority to invest 34-million-dollars to revamp Stewart International Airport in Orange County.
The Governor says part of the modernization and expansion includes constructing a permanent U.S. Customs and Border Protection federal inspection station that will allow the airport to handle both domestic and international flights. He hopes to bring in more passengers by rebranding the airport as New York International. He says the renaming and the addition of regularly scheduled trans-Atlantic service in 2017 for the first time will attract more travelers from the Metropolitan area looking for alternative, efficient transportation.
