The Sears store in the Hudson Valley Mall near Kingston is closing.
The parent company announcing yesterday that it is closing more than 100 stores around the country including the one in Ulster County. Sears Holdings said that it will be closing 64 Kmart stores and 39 Sears stores between March and April, with liquidation sales starting as soon as next week.
The Sears Auto Center in the mall will close in late February; the Kingston area store will close in April. In recent years the Hudson Valley Mall has also lost a Macy’s and JC Penney store.
The company declined to say how many employees will get pink slips, but indicated most are part-time workers. Sears has lost an estimated ten-billion dollars over the last six years.
