(Albany, NY) -- The flu season in New York is getting worse.

The state department of health just released the first numbers of the new year and there was a nearly 40-percent jump in confirmed flu cases from the week before. Dutchess and Ulster counties are both now reporting widespread flu activity. So far this season one child has died after getting the flu.
