Beacon's Police Chief, Can't Become Newburgh's Chief

(Newburgh, NY) -- Newburgh has to once again search for a new police chief after the city's top pick was deemed ineligible.

The State Civil Service Commission has rejected former Monticello and Beacon Police Chief Doug Solomon for the job, stating that a chief's exam he took more than ten years ago isn't applicable to the post. The test Solomon took in 2002 was for a Type B department, which employs less than 50 full-time cops.

Newburgh has more than 80 officers on its police force. Newburgh hasn't had a permanent police chief for three years.
