Early Voting Could Be Coming To New York State

(Albany, NY) -- Governor Andrew Cuomo wants to make it easier for New Yorkers to vote.

He's advancing legislation that would require every New York county to offer early voting in the 12 days leading up to an Election Day.

He says under the measure residents will be given access to at least one early voting poll site during the 12 days, and have at least eight hours on weekdays and five hours on weekends to cast ballots.

He notes that New York is one of only 13 states where early voting is not available and an excuse is currently required in New York to request an absentee ballot.
