For the first time since last Tuesday classes are in session today in the City of Poughkeepsie School District.
Classes were cancelled on Wednesday and Thursday due to a threat of violence. Classes were cancelled again on Friday because of the stormy weather. Poughkeepsie Police Chief Thomas Pape notified the School District that the recent social media post, concerning the threat of a school shooting at Poughkeepsie High School, was “without merit.”
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Nicole Williams said to ensure a safe and secure learning environment, the district will station a police officer at each of the nine school buildings for the full school day and will continue enforcing the district’s school safety plan and code of conduct.
