Assemblyman Frank Skartados is dead after suffering from pancreatic cancer. Skartados was first elected to the Assembly in 2008 and represented parts of the Hudson Valley, including Poughkeepsie and Newburgh. The Democrat died over the weekend at the age of 62.
Colleagues of Skartados are offering condolences to his family. State Senator Sue Serino says Assemblyman Skartados was a “strong voice for the local community and a valuable partner in the state legislature.”
U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer tweeted that Skartados fought for New Yorkers and those living in the Hudson Valley. Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie praised Skartados in a statement saying the lawmaker worked hard to improve the economy and the education system.
