(Washington, DC) -- Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is moving to decriminalize marijuana.
It's a major policy shift for the New York Democrat who says he'll introduce legislation next week to decriminalize marijuana at the federal level. That would mean removing pot from the DEA's list of controlled substances. He told Vice News he's seen lengthy jail time for marijuana ruin people's lives and that it should be up to states, some of which have legalized weed, to decide.
Schumer's bill would also contain funds to research the health effects of marijuana.
