Student Walkout Planned In Local Schools

(Poughkeepsie, NY)  Hundreds of local students are preparing to walk out of class again today.

This is the anniversary of the Columbine school shooting and the students are planning to protest gun violence. Some students at Roy C. Ketcham and John Jay high schools in the Wappingers District are among the students in Dutchess County planning a walkout.  Protests are also expected at Hyde Park, Rhinebeck and Spackenkill schools.

The protests are scheduled to begin at 10am. They come a month after a national walkout over the mass shooting that killed 17 people at a school in Parkland, Florida.  Some school districts warn that protesting students could face disciplinary action.
