(Albany, NY) -- Governor Andrew Cuomo is introducing a bill that would ban the use of single-use plastic bags in New York State.
The Governor says plastic bags are "a blight" that takes a devastating toll on streets, water and natural resources. The bill would exempt garment bags, trash bags or any bags used to wrap or contain certain foods such as sliced meats and fruits. If approved, the measure would go into effect on January 1st.
Cynthia Nixon says she's noticed that Cuomo has changed his tune on certain topics since she announced her run for governor. She says a year ago, Cuomo blocked a five-cent surcharge that New York City tried to place on single-use plastic bags.
