(Poughkeepsie, NY) -- Poughkeepsie is honoring a fallen sailor.
City of Poughkeepsie native Corey Ingram was killed last summer when the USS John McCain collided with a tanker ship near Singapore. Ingram and nine of his fellow sailors died in the accident. Yesterday the city unveiled a sign at the roundabout at Creek Road and Smith Street in honor of Ingram.
Ingram grew up on Smith Street and then went on to graduate from Poughkeepsie High School and Dutchess Community College before joining the Navy. Friends, family and elected officials turned out for the dedication ceremony. The roundabout is now named the “Petty Officer First Class Corey G. Ingram Circle.”
