Immigrant Children Can Get Guardians In New York

(Albany, NY) -- New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is signing a law that will allow people facing deportation to assign their children legal guardians.

Under the legislation, parents can choose a family member or close friend to care for their children on a standby basis. Cuomo said the measure is aimed at keeping children out of foster care centers, similar to what's happened at the southern border in the past few months. He called the federal "zero tolerance" immigration policy inhumane and disgusting.

President Trump maintains strong border security, including building a wall, is in the best interests of the country as a whole.
