Lead Paint Poisoning

(Albany, NY) -- A bill is expected to be introduced in the State Senate today that would increase screening for lead paint poisoning.

Senator Gustavo Rivera's bill would loosen the requirements for an investigation into the source of lead paint for young children in public and private housing.  Earlier this month, it was revealed that more than 800 New York City children under the age of six tested positive for elevated levels of lead in a recent four year period.  The lead levels were below the City standards that prompt an apartment inspection.
