(Albany, NY) -- The Red Cross is now offering Amazon gift cards to people who donate blood or blood platelets. The offer is good starting today through August 30th. The nation is facing a severe mid-summer shortage of all types of blood. A Red Cross spokeswoman says the organization needs to collect more than 13-thousand donations a day, worldwide, to prevent a shortage. She says summer is a challenging time for donations because many people who usually give blood are traveling.
