Legal Settlement Reached In Angelika Graswald Case

(Poughkeepsie, NY) -- After months of legal wrangling, a settlement has been reached in the case between a woman convicted of drowning her fiance in a kayak and the man's family.

Angelika Graswald served two-and-a-half years for killing Vincent Viafore in 2015. Prosecutors said the motive was a half-million dollar life insurance policy. Viafore's family had filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Graswald to stop her from collecting the money.

On Monday, Viafore's family agreed to drop the lawsuit in exchange for Graswald dropping an appeal of her conviction. Further details of the settlement were not made public.
