Drivers Spinning Donuts on Bay Bridge Bring Traffic to a Halt

With engines revving and tires screeching, at least three vehicles shut down several westbound lanes of traffic on the Bay Bridge Sunday, causing headaches for commuters heading into San Francisco as the sideshow stunts brought traffic to a halt.

At least three drivers were spotted performing donuts across all five lanes of the Bay Bridge's upper deck Sunday morning while several other people recorded the event. The CHP says by the time they got out there, most of the drivers had already fled.

The CHP posted video of the vehicles blocking traffic on the Bay Bridge on Twitter, writing:

At 1045 hours video taken by a passerby of vehicles stopping traffic and engaging in side show activity on the #BayBridge. San Francisco CHP units responded and took the driver of one of these vehicles into custody for reckless driving and exhibition of speed.

The CHP said the driver of the white Mustang broke an axle while doing stunts, and wasn't able to get away. Authorities say 21-year-old Gabriel Rene Mora was arrested and will be booked for reckless driving and exhibition of speed. Authorities added in a follow-up post on Facebook that the man will also have his car impounded for the next 30 days.

Other suspects who were believed to have participated in the sideshow were stopped by CHP units for mechanical violations as they exited the Bay Bridge. A second suspect had his vehicle impounded after officers discovered he didn't have a license, authorities said.
