(Poughkeepsie, NY) -- Today marks the 17th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks. There are several remembrance and observance ceremonies scheduled across Dutchess County, some of them are in the morning around the times the attacks in New York and Washington, DC occurred.
The Annual Town of Wappinger September 11th Remembrance is scheduled for 8:30am at the Sgt. Mark C. Palmateer 9/11 Memorial Park at the corner of Route 9 and Old Hopewell Road. Town Board members are participating and the public is invited.
The City of Poughkeepsie is holding their 9/11 Memorial Service this morning at 9 am. The ceremony is being in held in conjunction with the Kiwanis Club of Poughkeepsie and is scheduled for Memorial Park outside city hall. Mayor Rob Rolison will officiate at the service. The public is invited.
A 9/11 Candlelight Ceremony will be held tonight in Hyde Park with many local firefighters participating. It was originally scheduled to be held at the Paul Tegtmeier Memorial site but because of the weather forecast it has been moved to Hyde Park Town Hall on Route 9. Candles will be handed out to the public with the ceremony beginning at 7pm. Paul Tegtmeier from Hyde Park was a NYC Firefighter who died in the line of duty on 9/11.
The Town of Beekman and the Beekman Fire Company will hold a brief prayer service at 7pm at the Memorial site on Beekman-Poughquag Road to honor and remember the victims of 9/11. The public is invited.
