(Albany, NY) -- Governor Andrew Cuomo was the clear winner over actress and activist Cynthia Nixon in yesterday's Democratic primary.
The governor will now face Republican nominee and Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro in November. Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul will join Governor Cuomo on the November ballot. She was able to defeat fellow Democrat Jumaane Williams in that party's primary.
Meanwhile, Letitia James could soon become the first African-American woman elected to statewide office. The New York City public advocate held off challenges by Hudson Valley Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney, Dutchess County resident Zephyr Teachout and attorney Leecia Eve to win the Democratic primary for attorney general. James had the endorsement of the state Democratic Party and Governor Cuomo. She'll face Republican Keith Wofford in November.
