(New York, NY) -- Former New York Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver is headed to prison.
A Manhattan federal judge has rejected the 74-year-old's request for bail while he appeals his seven-year corruption sentence. Judge Valerie Caproni says the one-time Democratic power broker can't delay any longer because his case is weak and that Silver's true purpose for appealing is to postpone his day of reckoning. He's been ordered to surrender on October 5th.
