(Poughkeepsie, NY) -- In Dutchess County State Senator Sue Serino fought back a strong challenge from Democrat Karen Smythe.
Though the paper ballots must still be counted, it looks like Serino will win the 41st District Race by about 2,000 votes.
A Democrat though is taking over a New York State Senate seat from a Republican in the Hudson Valley. Pete Harckham is thanking voters in his victory over two-term Senator Terrence Murphy in the 40th Senate District. The district covers parts of Dutchess, Putnam and Westchester counties. Murphy had won the district in 2016 by 15-points.
