(Poughkeepsie, NY) -- Hudson Valley veterans are being honored on Veterans Day. Ceremonies were held yesterday in Poughkeepsie, Beacon, Hyde Park and Kingston.
The ceremonies took note that this is the 100th anniversary for Armistice Day marking the end of World War One. The Dutchess County ceremony in the Town of Poughkeepsie included speeches by retired General Ferg Foley and Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro.
Veterans Day is being observed today by the federal government since the actual day fell on a Sunday this year. That means federal offices will be closed, as well as most state and local government offices. Some local communities are holding their ceremonies today to honor veterans for their service in the military.
