Elephant Escapes In Orange County

(Westtown, NY) -- An elephant is back at its barn in Orange County, after briefly escaping.

The animal's handler called police to say 44-year-old Fritha had escaped Sunday night from the Sanctuary for Animals in Westtown. She was found not far away along William Lain Road, munching on a freshly delivered bale of hay.

Her escape was apparently made possible by human error, as someone forgot to flip the switch on her electrified fence. Fritha was originally rescued from Vietnam where she was burned by Napalm during the Vietnam War.
